1st idea: "Terror corruption on the horizon?"

This headline shown above could be the title for a British Social realism movie. This is my idea of how I can use this title to create a British movie. The themes will be based on: terrorism, violence and corruption of youth.  The plot of the story starts off with an Islamic state video being shown going viral, showing terrorists bombing an area and thus murders a handful of innocent people in London. The public goes into a frenzy of panic and is paranoid of going out, in fear of being killed. This prompts the government to take action and holds a conference of how they are going to deal and suppress the increasingly threatening terrorists. The main character is called Abdul and is a smart sixteen year old Muslim boy, who is just living like any ordinary teenager. However, the terrorist that consists of five jihads using propaganda in order to persuade every Muslims to join them in their corrupted acts and this affects Abdul as the story goes on. The leader of the terrorists, Fabio aims to start off bombing small places such as car parks and parks, and then increase the scale of the places/people they are bombing such as David Cameron's car. As Abdul witnesses the ongoing chaos that ensues throughout London, he is torn between following these terrorists because he believes that following them is the right thing to do according to Islam, or actually staying away from these terrorists and helping the government imprison these terrorists. As you continue to watch the movie, the biggest decision of Abdul's life will become clear and it will affect him and other young Muslims who are also in the same situation as him...

This headline gave me inspiration of a hit and run incident that can occur in a British social realism film. The themes will be based on: violence, aspiration and escape and social class clashes. It is set in London and the plot of the story will begin with a young man: Yuri, in his early twenties running away from a couple of thugs in a gang chasing him. Yuri has many big debts that he needs to pay off but is unable to do so, prompting the gang to capture him and murder him. He barely escapes at the start from the thugs, however from then on his life continues to deteriorate in an unfortunate way. His family and friends get involved, in some cases, they are captured and held for ransom to his complete horror and dismay. Yuri owes debts to gangs because he needs to support his family, who consists of only his two younger twin brother and sister due to his mother dying when he was a baby and his father's mysterious disappearance. He tries many ways of escaping from the intimidating thugs, which includes trying to even leave the country by a bicycle as  his last resort. However, a plot twist that occurs will leave you in complete shock...

This headline also interested me because of how unique it was. Acid isn't really used much in movies as the start of a movie but I believe it can be a great smash mouth opening. It will start off with the masked man as an antagonist throwing acid to the main protagonist - Lucy. The themes for this movie are: Mental illness, violence and success and failure. Lucy is a middle waged woman who is horrified by the acid being thrown at her, also unknown of why this is happening to her. The story carries on with Lucy, attempting to track down the masked man to the best of her ability, using everything she can. The masked man knows that Lucy is coming back after him and he uses malicious in order to lure Lucy into his hands...

Week 6 Productive Log

This week I had to look at the history of Film 4; this is the film company that will help distribute and promote our movie. I found out that Film 4 started up at 1982 and is responsible for the showing of many British social realism movies that includes popular movies such as : Slumdog millionaire and Attack the block. This helped the decision to choose Film 4 as our film company because the themes that they usually show in their movies is what we are going to use in our movie and opening sequence. I have been able to find this out because I have researched two movies shown by Film 4: This is England and Four lions. Themes in This is England include: corruption of youth, racism and violence and in Four lions it is: terrorism, comedy and violence.

The week also included me looking and researching opening credits of a movie. This has helped me have a perspective how opening sequence credits are structured and layered out. The movie I looked at was Dawn of the Dead - a horror movie. I found out that the institution logo is depicted in a huge bold writing, along with the equally big title of the movie. After these two credits have passed, the main starring actors/actresses are shown in the credits, then the side characters are shown later. Later on, the rest of the staff of the production of the movie are named, for example: the production designer, editor, director and many more. Finally, they usually last under 2 minutes at least, which is helpful for our opening sequence because the maximum time we get on it is 2 minutes.

Dawn of the Dead Opening Credits

The opening credits of Dawn of the Dead shows many scenes where chaos is happening throughout the location, which is presumed to be North America. It shows scenes of flesh eating humans being reanimated into zombies, which is extremely affecting everyone near them. The president is even confused of what is happening as he is asked if the reanimated zombies are dead or alive and he responds by saying he doesn't know. Many scenes also show fires breaking out, which is done by the rampaging zombies, connoting to how aggressive and dangerous they are. This leads to many police and even army officers being called upon in order to mitigate the damage that these zombies are causing. The opening credits also show multiple scenes of what seems to be cells mutating out of control and this could be the cause of the reanimation, which consequently leads to the disastrous zombies, causing major havoc .

The institutional logo is denoted in a bold red color, in the middle of a pitch black background, which will continue to be the same concept of the opening credits. By doing this, the movie is able to connote that the movie will have violence and blood in it because that is the connotations that color red has. Consequently, this gives the audience a clear idea of the genre that they can expect when watching Dawn of the Dead. The black background gives off the feeling that there is nothing but darkness and deaths in the movie, as when you think of pure black, you think of nothing but negative things.

The logo of "Dawn of the Dead" is again shown in a big, bold red characters in the opening credits but unlike the last screen grab it shows the transition every title goes through in Dawn of the Dead. Each title shows for at least 2 seconds and you can see the logo dissolving and splattering into the surrounding background. This makes it seem as if we are already watching people dying and again enforces the fact that Dawn of the Dead is a sinister movie.

Below shows the timeline that i have made for Dawn of the dead. It contains all of the titles and the time they appear at. I have annotated the timeline to see what type of order the Dawn of the Dead lays out it's titles. They start off with the institution company because they have rather high importance out of the rest of the other titles; they are the company that allowed the production of the movie, so without them Dawn of the Dead wouldn't have been produced. For the next minute or so, the movie shows all of the actors/actresses names because this allows the audience to know who is going to be in the movie and if they are the right fit for a horror movie. After all of the actors/actresses has passed in the opening credits, the rest of the people that have had a major part in the production of this movie is casted. For example, the production designer, Andrew Neskorommy is responsible with the overall look and visual concept of this movie. So he chooses how the zombies move, the amount of blood that is shown and more. So this is why production designers have one of the essential creative roles in the creation of motion pictures and television and why they deserve credit during the opening titles. Furthermore, another example is the director of the movie: Zack Snyder is shown at the end of the opening of the credits. This is done because just before the audience starts to watch the movie, they will remember the last title of the credit, so they will know who is directing this movie. By doing this, the movie will allow the audience to think whether or not if the director is well known and good at directing movies.




By creating this timeline and looking at the opening credits of Dawn of The Dead I have a clear idea about institutional information in opening credits that I will use in my own opening sequence,
